Admission Application Process
Legacy OnLine has no residential-based attendance areas within the Kennewick School District. Enrollment is not determined by the neighborhood in which a student resides; the program serves the students of the entire District. Student application for enrollment in the Legacy OnLine program may be made through direct parent/student application or by administrative referral. All applicants are evaluated for appropriateness in an alternative educational setting. Not all of the academic requirements of students with certain instructional needs can be met in this setting.

The LHS Application Packet can also be picked up at the Legacy High School and Kennewick School District offices. Please print, complete, and submit these forms to Legacy High School. We must have received all of these forms before our enrollment committee will act on your application. Your application packet, along with your current and historical academic, attendance, and behavioral records are examined and considered. You will be informed of the decision made on your application by LHS staff. If your transfer request is approved, you will need to make an appointment with our school counselor in order to process you enrollment. If your transfer request is denied, you may contact the LHS Principal to discuss the reasons for the denial.
Expectations of Students Enrolled in Legacy OnLine Courses
- The student must have reliable internet access available on a regular basis.
- The student may be enrolled in one, two, or three courses at any given point in time.
- The student must meet with his/her appropriate teacher(s) at least once per week. The student will contact his/her teacher(s) by telephone, email, or in person, any time a situation arises that may negatively impact his/her progress in his/her coursework.
- The student may be required to spend one or more hours per course per week in the Legacy OnLine computer lab.
- The student must sign in and out on the appropriate form when arriving to and leaving from the computer lab during each visit.
- The student will have a minimum of 7 weeks and a maximum of 18 weeks to successfully complete each course – adjustments may occasionally be made to accommodate individual academic needs (such as those dictated in a student’s IEP). All coursework must be completed within the semester in which enrollment in the course began.
- The student will complete all work by the deadlines established for each course – those deadlines may vary from one course to another. Most courses consist of 7 to 8 units. The student can not progress from one unit to the next until he/she has taken the unit exam and has been cleared by his/her teacher. Missing work, including assignments that are five or more days late, will block progress in the course until the missing work is submitted and the student has made contact with his/her teacher by telephone, email, or in person.
- To successfully complete each course and to earn credit for that course, the student must earn an aggregate score of at least 70%.
- Because of the freedom of movement that stems from the unstructured nature of an online instructional program, the student’s personal items (backpacks, coats, jackets, sweatshirts, handbags, purses, etc.) may be subject to search.
- All gang-related behaviors are prohibited while on the Legacy OnLine Advantage campus or in its immediate vicinity. Each student will sign, as a condition of enrollment in Legacy High School, and comply with the provisions of the LHS Gang Prevention Agreement.
- Each student must comply with the student dress provisions identified in Kennewick School District Regulation 3224. Clothing must be conducive to learning, orderliness, safety, and must not disrupt the educational environment. Clothing should be appropriate for an employment setting. Modesty, good taste, and the proper educational atmosphere are the focus. Clothing must not allow indecent exposure and may not contain vulgarities, sexual connotations, or drug, alcohol, tobacco, or gang references as specified in KSD Regulation 3224.
- It is the intent of the Kennewick School District to provide safe, productive, and positive learning environments for students. To that end, each student must comply with the rules of conduct identified in Kennewick School District Policy 3240. Disruptive behavior is not acceptable in the classroom, in other areas of the school campus, nor at related school activities. Violations may result in corrective action or punishment imposed by authorized employees of the District.
- In order to ensure respect and prevent harm, it is a violation of District policy for a student to be harassed, intimidated, or bullied (including cyber bullying) by others in the school community, at school sponsored events, or when such actions create a substantial disruption to the educational process. Accordingly, each student will comply with the provisions of Kennewick School District Policy 3207.
- Regular school attendance is necessary for mastery of the educational program provided to students. Students are expected to attend all assigned classes each day. It is recognized that, at times, students appropriately may be absent from class. Accordingly, each student must comply with the provisions of Kennewick School District Policy 3122 and Kennewick School District Regulation 3122.
- Students who are in their 5th year (or more) of high school enrollment, as a condition of continued enrollment in educational programs accessible through Legacy High School, must sign and comply with the provisions of the LHS 5th Year Academic Performance Agreement.
- As a condition of enrollment in Legacy High School, students must sign and comply with the provisions of the LHS Behavior Expectations Summary, which encompasses the above expectations.
Legacy Online Courses
Apex Learning® and Apex Literacy Advantage® courses constitute the core of the Legacy OnLine curriculum. These are accredited courses, approved by the Kennewick School District, that meet Washington standards for learning, and are supervised by highly qualified Kennewick School District teachers.

Approved Single District Online School Program. Legacy Online is designated by the Washington State Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction as an Approved Single District Online School program. Rules and regulations governing independent learning programs within the State of Washington can be examined at OSPI’s Digital Learning Department website.
Legacy OnLine On-Campus Days/Hours: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday: 7:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.; Wednesday: 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The Kennewick School District Calendar is followed when determining which days the lab is open.
